Biography

Juan Adolfo Turri started out playing baskeball, which had been his father’s sport, helped by his height of 197 cm. But he later turned to athletics and the shot put. In 1968 he won the South American Junior Championship in the shot put. He later won the South American Championship with the shot in 1974 and 1975, placing second in 1981 and 1983, and third in 1969. At the 1975 Pan American Games, Turri just missed the podium, placing fourth in the shot put. On 6 September 1975 he broke the South American record with 18.73 metres.
