Biography

Judith Wiesner was an Austrian tennis player who played professionally from 1983 to 1997. Wiesner achieved a career-best singles ranking of #12 in the world in January 1997, and a doubles ranking of #29 in the world in July 1989. She played on Austria’s Fed Cup team from 1983 to 1997.

Wiesner won three singles titles and one doubles title on the ITF Circuit from August 1987 to May 1993. On the WTA Tour she won five singles titles with her first victory coming with a straight sets win against Sylvia Hanika in July 1988. As a doubles player Wiesner won three WTA titles from October 1987 to May 1989.

Wiesner competed in the singles and doubles at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics and the singles at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. Her best performance came in the doubles at the Barcelona Games where she and Petra Ritter reached the second round. Wiesner’s best performances at Grand Slams came in 1996 when she reached the singles quarter-finals at Wimbledon and the US Open, losing to Arantxa Sánchez Vicario and Steffi Graf, respectively.
