Biography

Shirley Cotton was an Australian track and field athlete who specialised in the discus throw. Cotton competed in her preferred event at her home Olympics in Melbourne in 1956. Her best throw in the qualification round was 40.76 metres, just short of the of 42 metres required to advance to the final of the competition. At the 1955–56 Australian Athletics Championships Cotton won silver in the discus along with a silver in the shot put. She won another silver in the discus at the 1957–58 championships and a bronze at the 1959–60 edition.

Personal Best: DT – 41.19 (1956).
