George Knott won several Australian and Victorian walking championships. After the 1948 Olympics he turned to public service, in addition to a career as a businessman. He was the publican of the Yorkshire Stingos Hotel in Collingwood, and in 1963-64 served as the Mayor of Collingwood. He also served as an official with the Victorian Amateur Athletic Association for many years, and in 1986 was made a Life Member.
