Arnulf Pilhatsch

Arnulf Pilhatsch was a multiple Austrian champion in the high jump (1941-43, 1946-49, 1951-54), triple jump (1949), and decathlon (1950-53). During the Austrian “Anschluss” to the Third Reich he participated in the German Championships in 1942 and 1943. Pilhatsch was runner-up at the 1942 European Youth Games and finished eighth at the 1954 European Championships in the decathlon.

At the 1948 London Olympics he was eliminated in the high jump qualifying round. Beginning in 1955 Pilhatsch was an active automobile and rally driver. He was a doctor of law and worked for an Austrian automobile manufacturer. His son Alexander Pilhatsch participated as a swimmer at both the 1984 and 1988 Olympic Games, and Alexander’s wife Birgit Haase-Pilhatsch and their daughter Sabrina Pilhatsch were national successful rhythmic gymnasts. Their other daughter, Caroline, became a swimmer as well.
