Ezra Burnham eventually settled in Raleigh, North Carolina. He was killed early on a Saturday morning in February 1973 when the car he was driving went out of control and struck a utility pole, throwing Burnham from the vehicle. At the 1968 Mexico-City Olympics he was eliminated in the heats of the 400 metres.
