Biography

Albert Lowagie took up track athletics after World War II and specialized in the 400 metres. He made his international début for Belgium at the 1950 European Championships, where he just missed out in a medal by coming in fourth in the 4x400 metres relay. That same year, he set a national record in that event with Antoine Uytterhoeven, Roger Moens, Fernand Linssen, and in 1951 the quartet improved on that record. His only major international appearance came at the 1952 Helsinki Olympics, where he was eliminated in the first round of both the 400 metres and the 4x400 metres relay. Lowagie retired from active competition soon after, and his record in the relay stood until 1954.

Personal Best: 400 – 49.5 (1952).
