Biography

Liu Yunzhang, later known as Liu Zhuofu, participated in the 1936 Berlin Olympics with the basketball team of the Republic of China and graduated from the biology department of the Beijing Normal University in the same year. In 1938, Liu joined the Communist Party. During the war, he was a member of the so-called “Combat Basketball team”, which was founded in the region controlled by the 120th division. After the founding of the People’s Republic of China, he served as the deputy minister in the Ministry of Commerce, responsible for the Agricultural Products Purchasing and Urban Service Departments, as deputy governor of the Yunnan Provincial People’s Committee, the secretary of the Yunnan Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China, director of the State General Administration of Prices and as delegate at the fifth and sixth National People’s Congress.
