Biography

Belgian track and field athlete Joseph Mostert was an accomplished middle-distance runner who won multiple national titles during his career. Mostert was selected to run in the 1,500 metres at the 1936 Berlin Olympics where he finished fourth in his heat with only the top-three progressing to the final. The following year he became the national champion in the event and was awarded with the Belgian National Sports Merit Award. He won three more Belgian titles in the 1,500 metres (1939, 1941, 1942), along with winning the 800 metres title in 1938. Also in 1938 Mostert won silver in the 1,500 metres at the European Athletics Championships in Paris.
