Biography

Jia Lianren, who attended the Shanghai University of Sport, claimed the titles in the 800 and 1,500 metres at the 1935 national championships, the last before the Second Sino-Chinese War. At the 1936 Berlin Olympics, he only competed in the 1,500 m, but failed to qualify for the second round. In both events he held national records with 2:02,.2 and 4:11.1 min, respectively. After the war, Jia moved to Taiwan holding various positions in the sports administration, e.g. he served as head of the Kaohsiung City Government Sports Development Bureau from 1953-57, and was a member of the board of the Chinese Sports Association.
