Biography

From 1973 to 1987 Mieczysław Młynarski represented Górnik Wałbrzych where he became one of the greats in the history of basketball in Poland. In addition to winning the league title in 1982, Młynarski was also the Polish League’s top scorer on four occasions (1980, 81, 83, 84) and the Polish League Player of the Year in 1981. He will best be remembered for scoring 90 points in a single game in December 1982, a Polish league record that still stood at the time of his death in June 2025. Domestically he played in more than 350 league matches, scoring more than 9,000 points.

Młynarski was 19-years-old when he made his début for the Polish national team, eventually playing in 150 matches over the next nine years. He was the team’s top scorer at the EuroBasket tournaments in 1979 and 1981, as well as being the leading scorer for Poland at the 1980 Moskva Olympics. Following his playing career Młynarski continued to be involved in the sport as a coach for his old club Górnik Wałbrzych.
