Biography

Hassan Moawad was a member of the Egyptian basketball team that won a bronze medal at the 1947 European Championships, now known as EuroBasket, behind the Soviet Union and Czechoslovakia. His next stop was the 1948 London Olympics, where Egypt lost four of its five matches in the preliminary round and was defeated by Italy in the classification round to place 19th overall. Moawad saw playing time in all but one of the matches. Domestically, he played for Al-Ahly. He retired from active competition shortly after the Games and later had a lengthy career in higher education at the municipal level. He also had a stint coaching basketball in Middle Eastern countries.
