Biography

After winning multiple Danish titles and two editions of the King’s Cup, distance runner Kjeld Nielsen was destined to go on to great things. The cross-country run for the King’s Cup was established in 1905 with Nielsen winning back-to-back titles in 1906 and 1907. In the same years he also won gold in the Danish mile race as well as the one mile title in 1908. Nielsen was selected to compete at the 1908 London Olympics where he ran in the 1,500 metres and the five miles, but did not advance past the heats in either event. Sadly Nielsen died less than two years after the London Games at the age of only 22.

Personal Best: 1500 – 4:15.0 (1908).
