Biography

After a successful career as a champion distance runner Miguel Palau became a writer and cartoonist. Palau was a three-time champion of Catalonia in the 5,000 metres, winning consecutive titles from 1923 to 1925, along with a win in the 1,500 metres in 1925. At the Spanish championships he won the 5,000 metres in 1924 and 1925, and the 1,500 metres title in 1925. The same year Palau was unbeatable in the 1,500 metres, with him setting three Catalan records and two Spanish records in the event. He also set Catalan records in the mile, 2,000 metres, and the 10,000 metres. In cross-country running Palau was the champion of Catalonia in 1924, before doing the double of winning the Catalan and Spanish titles in 1926. With the Catalan team he won four back-to-back titles at the Spanish championships from 1924 to 1927. Palau ran in the 5,000 metres and the 3,000 metres team race at the 1924 Paris Olympics but did not advance from the heats in either. After his athletics career he became a writer and cartoonist, with his works being published from the mid-1920s until the early 1970s.
