Biography

Finnish track and field athlete Yrjö Ekqvist specialised in the javelin throw. Ekqvist competed at the 1924 Paris Olympics where he finished just outside of the medals in fourth place with a best throw of 57.56 metres. In the same year he set a Finnish record with a throw of 65.33 metres at a competition in Turku. Ekqvist was a national champion in the javelin in 1923 and 1924, and won two silver (1925, 1926), and two bronze medals (1918, 1922). He was also the Finnish champion in the two-handed javelin throw in 1917, 1923, and 1924.
