Finland’s Erkki Järvinen competed in track and field athletics as a triple jumper and as a ski jumper, becoming a national champion in both sports. Järvinen was selected to compete in the triple jump at the 1924 Paris Olympics but did not start in the event. Two years later he became the Finnish champion in the event with a jump of 14.59 metres. At the 1928 Amsterdam Olympics he had a best jump of 14.65 metres to finish in sixth place. Earlier in the same year Järvinen won the Finnish ski jumping championship in Helsinki. His brother Esko was also a ski jumper who competed at the 1928 St. Moritz Olympics.
