Biography

Janine Lamouche met her future husband when she started training and studying to become a Physical Education professor during World War II. He was a sports professor and coach, and it was under his tutelage that she first trained in track athletics. Her career almost ended during World War II, however, when a tooth infection nearly killed her and robbed her of her ability to walk. She not only recovered, but started winning championships a year later and went on to represent France at the 1948 London Olympics, where she was eliminated in round one of the 80 metres hurdles. She retired from active competition shortly thereafter and went on to teach at the Lycée La Fontaine in Paris, also coaching their basketball team, which won multiple championships. In 1958 she was granted the grade of Chevalier du Mérite Sportif.

Personal Best: 80H – 12.0 (1948).
