Biography

Fred Ashford was a finalist at the 880 y at the 1908 AAA Championship. As a young man he studied the piano and organ at the Royal Academy of Music but later developed a fine tenor voice around which he built a Concert Party which played the season at Scarborough every year from 1929-39. He met his wife while they were on tour together before World War I. They had a daughter and two sons, the eldest of whom was killed in action in 1945 while serving with the RAF.
