Biography

Sprinter Bärbel Mayer finished sixth with the sprint relay at the 1956 Melbourne Olympics. In the same year, the German relay team set five new world records. Mayer also participated in the 1958 and 1962 European Championships for the former GDR. In East Germany she won national titles in 1958-59 and 1961-62 in the 400 and also won eight relay titles. She married non-Olympian middle-distance runner Helfried Reinnagel.

Personal Best: 100 – 11.7 (1958).
