Biography

East German sprinter Bärbel Struppert won a silver medal at the 1972 München Olympics together with Evelin Kaufer, Christina Heinich and Renate Stecher, when the relay lost the dramatic final against West Germany on the anchor leg. In the semifinals East Germany had set a world record, which was bettered by West Germany in the final. With the relay Struppert also finished second at the 1970 European Cup. Domestically she won five outdoor relay titles and two indoor ones. By profession she trained as a sports teacher and was married to soccer player Gerd Struppert.

Personal Best: 100 – 11.1 (1972).
