Biography

Fritz Kühl took part in the 1960 Roma and the 1964 Tokyo Olympics, but failed to get past qualifying in the discus throw at both Olympics and in the shot put in 1960. He also competed at the European Championships in 1958 and 1962, and finished second in the 1965 European Cup in shot put. Domestically he won East German titles in the discus in 1958, 1960, 1964 and 1965, and in the shot put in 1956-58. Kühl was the first East German shot putter to better the 16 and 17 metre barriers. He was educated as a machine fitter.

Personal Bests: SP – 17.29 (1960); DT – 58.62 (1966).
