Biography

East German long jumper was injured after his second attempt of 7.59 in the qualifying round of the 1980 Moskva Olympics and could not make the final. At the 1975 European Cup he finished third. Domestically Rieger won the East German titles outdoors in 1975 and indoors in 1976. He later became athletes coach and manager of his home club SC Potsdam. His father Heinz Rieger was also a long and triple jumper.

Personal Best: LJ – 8.10 (1980).
