Biography

Michael Schimmer, a 400 metre runner, ran at the 1988 Seoul Olympics with the East German 4x400 relay but only in the heats. One year earlier he competed at the World Championships with the relay. In 1989, Schimmer was the last East German indoor champion in the 400. In 1992, he married his non-Olympian teammate Norma Dittner. Schimmer was educated as a motor vehicle mechanic. Since German reunification in 1990 he worked as an athletics, fitness and personal coach, especially with the disabled.

Personal Best: 400 – 46.21 (1987).
