Biography

Gisela Ellenberger, later married Klein, was eliminated in the semifinals of the 800 metres at the 1972 München Olympics. She came in fifth at the 1971 European Championships and won two medals at the European Indoors – silver in 1974, and bronze in 1976. In 1974 Ellenberger was West German champion, also winning indoors in 1972, 1974 and 1977, adding 12 relay titles over different distances. In 1971 she set a world record over 600 indoor. She studied as a gymnastics teacher.

Personal Best: 800 – 2:00.88 (1975).
