Biography

Margrit Klinger had six siblings and her father died in an accident, when she was 12-years-old, but she still became one of the most successful 800 metre runners in West Germany in the 1980s. In 1984 she finished seventh at the Los Angeles Olympics. Her greatest moment came in 1982 when she won a bronze medal at the European Championships. Klinger also won a bronze at the 1983 European Cup, and placed fourth at the 1981 Worlds. Domestically she won West German titles in the 800 in 1980-82, 1984-85, and 1987, also winning the 1,500 in 1984. Klinger studied finance and business and worked in the administrative office of the county hospital in Bad Hersfeld. Her sister Helga was a national successful 400 metre runner.

Personal Best: 800 – 1:57.22 (1982).
