Biography

Leopold Gernhardt played from 1939-54 with SK Rapid Wien, helping them win seven Austrian championships (1940-41 as champion in “Gauliga Ostmark”, 1946, 1948, 1951-52, 1954). He also helped them win the 1951 Zentropacup and the 1941 German Rapid Championships. With Rapid, Gernhardt played in 228 official matches, scoring 51 goals, and earning 27 caps for the Austrian national team. He later became a trainer, first with SK Rapid Wien, but from 1955-64 he also worked for Wacker Wien, First Vienna, FC Lustenau, and Austria Klagenfurt.
