Biography

Tunisian footballer Ali Klibi began his career with Avenir Sportif de La Marsa when he was still quite young, becoming a regular in the side when he turned 18. After only a couple of seasons with the club Klibi was called up to the Tunisian national team. At the 1960 Roma Olympics he was named in the squad for the football tournament, although he did not play in any matches at the Games.

One year later Klibi scored Tunisia’s goal in their 2–1 defeat to Nigeria in a qualification match for the 1962 Africa Cup of Nations. The second leg of the match ended in controversy, with the Nigerian team walking off the pitch after Tunisia had equalised. As a result, Tunisia was awarded a 2–0 victory and qualified for the tournament finals. Klibi was named in Tunisia’s squad for the tournament; however, just like the Olympics he did not play in any matches. Later in 1962 he went to France to study for a medical degree, where he played for amateur clubs for much of the decade, before returning home to Tunisia.
