Oriol Ysamat’s father, Luis, was a field hockey player who took part in the 1928 Amsterdam Olympics and later worked as a club manager. Oriol took up that sport after World War II and won a Spanish national title with Fútbol Club Barcelona in 1953. He was chosen as a reserve with the field hockey squad at the 1960 Rome Olympics, with his father serving as a team selector, but he did not see any playing time in Spain’s bronze medal run through the tournament. Following his retirement from active competition, he served in several administrative roles in the sport, particularly in the Catalan Hockey Federation.
