Biography

Bryn Thomas was an all-round sportsman and played both cricket and hockey for Neath before World War II. He was a prolific pace bowler at his summer sport, and a fine centre-half for the Neath Hockey Club. He went on to win 14 Welsh hockey caps, and played for Glamorgan county more than 100 times. A sergeant in the RAF Volunteer Reserve during the War, Thomas was stationed at St. Athan, and in 1946 helped them to win the Welsh Basketball Championship. That same year, physical training expert Thomas was awarded the British Empire Medal in the Birthday Honours List for his services to organising sport in the RAF. He joined Briton Town Cricket Club in 1953, having moved from Neath to Cardiff to play his hockey after the War. He also served on the committee of Aberavon RFC.
