Biography

Thomas Giessing won the 4x400 relay gold medal at the 1982 European Championships together with Erwin Skamrahl, Harald Schmid and non-Olympian Hartmut Weber. He also took part in the 1986 European Championships over 800 metres. Domestically Giessing was 1988 West German Champion in the 800. In 1982 he was awarded the Silver Bay Leaf by the German Track and Field Association. Giessing was educated as a bank clerk and later became a board member in various banking institutes.

Personal Best: 400 – 46.00 (1983).
