Biography

Dimitrios Deligiannis was a Greek long-distance runner who represented Panellinios GS. Deligiannis was one of the 17 men who competed in the marathon at the 1896 Athína Olympics. Originally deemed to have finished in seventh, he was upgraded to sixth place after it had emerged that Spyridon Belokas had taken a carriage for a short part of the race. Deligiannis had been chosen to compete in the Athina marathon after finishing second in the first of two Greek trial marathons, held on 10 March 1896 and won by Charilaos Vasilakos, who eventually finished second in the Olympic marathon.
