During the 1930s Greek track and field athlete Napoleon Papageorgiou won multiple titles in the javelin throw. Papageorgiou won his first national title in the event in 1931 before winning six further titles (1933–37, 1940). At the Balkan Athletics Championships he won four gold medals (1932, 1936–38), along with two silvers (1933–34). At the 1936 Berlin Olympics, however, he had a disappointing performance, finishing in 22nd with a best throw of 52.00 metres. In addition to his success in the javelin Papageorgiou was also the Greek champion in the pentathlon, winning the title in 1933.
