Biography

Greek pole vaulter Vasilios Xydas represented Athlitikos Omilos Athinon. At the 1896 Athína Olympics Xydas finished in fifth place in the event with a best clearance of 2.40 metres. Only five athletes took part in the event at the Athína Games with Xydas having the unlucky distinction of being the only one not to win a medal after compatriots Evangelos Damaskos and Ioannis Theodoropoulos both won a bronze with their jumps of 2.60 metres.
