Biography

Steve Sheppard played his high school basketball at DeWitt Clinton High School in New York, where he was a teammate of 1972 Olympian, Thomas Henderson, and also did well enough to be named New York City Player of the Year. He then went to the University of Maryland where academic problems kept him ineligible for one semester, but he became an immediate starter once eligible the next year. In a preview of international play he led his Maryland team to a victory over the Soviet Union by scoring 22 points and pulling down 15 rebounds. After leaving Maryland in 1977, Steve Sheppard played two years of basketball in the NBA, first with Chicago, then Detroit.
