Biography

Gyula Belloni was one of the most versatile athletes in Hungarian sports history. From 1923 to 1944 he competed in the colors of MAC as atrack athlete, mainly in mid and long-distances, skier and hockey player. In athletics he competed in the 1500m at the Amsterdam Olympics in 1928. In 1925 Belloni won the first Hungarian championship title in orienteering. In 1933 and 1934 he won the championship title in cross country skiing. In 1930 and 1931 he was national champion in field hockey.

Starting from 1942 Belloni was the head coach of the modern pentathloners of the Honvéd Officers’ Fencing Club (HTVK), MAC cross country skiers, and captain of the Hungarian Ski Association. Until 1945, he was an official, technical inspector at the housing construction branch of the Ministry of Welfare, and then an auditor adviser. From 1946 he was the branch manager of the transport company MOLSPED. Later he was a technical inspector at the Investment Bank and then at Erőber.

Personal Best: 1500 – 4:05.2 (1927).
