Biography

Ken Spain lived in Houston all his early life, including his college days at the University of Houston. At Houston he played on the great team that in early 1968 beat the UCLA Bruins of Lew Alcindor (later Kareem Abdul-Jabbar), Lucius Allen and “Hill Street Blues” star Mike Warren. Later that year UCLA avenged their loss to Houston, and Spain had to settle for only being an NCAA semifinalist. After graduating from Houston, Spain played a few games in 1971 with the Pittsburgh Condors of the ABA.
