Biography

Salvatore Mastroieni was an Italian middle-distance runner who finished fifth in the 5,000 metres at the 1932 European Championships in Torino, after winning the Italian title that year at the same distance. Mastroieni competed at the 1936 Berlin Olympics but was eliminated in the heats of the 5,000 metres. He was capped 14 times for Italy between 1933-41. Mastroieni was Italian record holder for just under two years with his 14:57.0 set in Budapest on 19 August 1934 and improved by Umberto Cerati with 14:45.0 in Milano in May 1936.

Personal Best: 5000 – 14:55.6 (1938).
