Biography

Giuseppe Tarella was an Italian 400 metre runner at the 1908 Olympics. A native of Torino and a 400-meter specialist, he first stood out in June 1902 in a 320 metre race that he won. In 1904 in Torino he set his first national record over 400 metres with 54.6 and, after losing it to Alberto Mesones (born in Peru but a naturalized Italian) and Roberto Penna, he regained it on 2 September 1906 in Rivoli Torinese with his personal best of 53.1, a record that was improved a few days later by Emilio Lunghi.

In 1906 Tarella won the UPI championships while in 1907 he was runner-up at the Italian Championships in Roma behind Umberto Barozzi. At the London Olympic Games, Tarella was eliminated in the heats, and ended his sporting career after the Games.

Personal Best: 400 – 53.1 (1906).
