Junko Nishida won the women’s high jump at the 1935 Japan Athletics Championships with 1.47 metres. At the time of the Berlin Olympics Nishida worked as a teacher at a girls’ high school in Sapporo. Her personal best of 1.55, achieved in 1940, was a Japanese students’ record at the time.
