Biography

Shinichi Yamaoka was a Japanese track and field athlete who competed in sprint events. In 1916 Yamaoka won the 400 metres title at the Japanese championship in athletics. Four years later he ran in both the 100 and 200 metres at the Antwerpen Olympics but did not progress from the heats in either race. After graduating from the Daiichi High School, Yamaoka joined the Faculty of Engineering at the Tokyo Imperial University. He later held various positions in organisations such as the Meiji Jingu Athletic Association, All Japan Athletics Federation, and the Japan Water Sports Federation.
