Biography

Manuel Álvarez was a Mexican track and field athlete who competed in sprinting. Along with Carlos de Anda, José Lucílo Iturbe, and Jesús Moraila, Álvarez won gold in the 4 x 400 metres relay at the 1930 Central American and Caribbean Games. Two years later he competed in the same event at the 1932 Los Angeles Olympics, with Ricardo Argüello running instead of Iturbe. Álvarez also ran in the 400 metres in Los Angeles but finished in last place in his heat. Three years later he won another medal in the 4 x 400 metres relay at the Central American and Caribbean Games when Mexico finished second to the team from Cuba.
