Gustavo Morales

Nicaraguan track and field athlete Gustavo Morales specialised in the hammer throw and represented his country throughout the 1960s and 1970s. In 1966 Morales finished ninth in that event at the Central American and Caribbean Games. Two years later he was selected to compete at the Olympics in Mexico City but failed to advance from the qualification round. Gradually his performances improved, with him placing fifth at the 1970 Central American and Caribbean Games, before just missing out on a medal one year later at the Central American and Caribbean Championships, finishing fourth. Morales also finished eighth at the Pan American Games in 1971, in addition to winning gold at the Central American Championships. He returned to the Championships four years later, this time winning silver.

Following his retirement Morales joined the Nicaraguan Air Force where he became a specialist in air traffic communications. He finished his aviation career working as an inspector for Delta Airlines.
