Biography

Cor Aalten was a good all-round track and field athlete who was the Dutch national champion in the pentathlon in 1934. Aalten specialised as a sprinter and was twice in the quartet that improved the national record in the 4 x 100 metres relay in the 1930s. In 1932 she was selected to run in the 100 metres at the Los Angeles Olympics, where she reached the semi-finals. She also ran in the 4 x 100 metres relay at the Games, with the Dutch team just missing out on a medal, finishing fourth. In 1934 the fourth edition of the Women’s World Games were held at the White City Stadium in London with the team of Aalten, Jo Dalmolen, Agaath Doorgeest, and Iet Martin winning silver in the 4 x 100 metres relay. Aalten also worked as a shorthand typist for a company based in Zeist.
