Biography

In 1914 Hendricus Wessel won the Amsterdam Marathon to set the first Dutch record in the event, which stood until 1931. Four years later Wessel won his only national title with victory in the 25 km run. A year earlier he set a national record for the half-hour running event when he covered 8,738.7 metres. In 1920 he was selected to run in the marathon at the Antwerpen Games where he finished 26th.
