Biography

Yu Ruizhang from Guilin in Guangxi started playing basketball in his childhood. In 1942, he was admitted to the Guilin Branch of the Central Military Academy and became a member of the school team. After graduation, he joined the Navy and was appointed captain of the Navy’s Zhenglun basketball team. With his team, Yu participated in the 7th National Games of the Republic of China in Shanghai in May 1948 and was subsequently selected for the men’s national team at the 1948 London Olympics. After the founding of the People’s Republic of China he went to Taiwan in 1949 and continued to be involved in the training of the Navy team. Yu pursued a military career and was eventually promoted to the rank of general.
