Either side of World War II Eugen Haugland won nine titles in jumping events at the Norwegian championships. Haugland represented Haugesund IL where he competed in the long jump and the triple jump. He won his first title in 1931 with victory in the triple jump before doing the double of winning the long jump and triple jump in 1933. In addition to several silver and bronze medals across the two events he won a further five national triple jump titles during his career (1934–37, 1948). He was selected to compete in the triple jump at the 1936 Berlin Olympics but finished a disappointing 14th. In 1946 he just missed out on a medal at the European Championships when he came fourth in the triple jump. Haugland’s son Terje was the Norwegian long jump champion in 1969 and 1971, and his granddaughter Hanne competed in the high jump at the 1996 Atlanta and 2000 Sydney Olympics.
