Biography

For more than a decade Olav Sunde was the best javelin thrower in Norway, which saw him win bronze at the Olympics and more than a dozen medals at the national championships. Sunde won his first medal at the Norwegian championships in 1924, taking home silver. He won silver again in 1925 and 1926 before finally winning gold in 1927. He then went on an incredible run of winning eight more national titles from 1928 to 1937, only missing out in 1929 and 1932.

Sunde also enjoyed success outside of Norway when he won the British AAA Championship title in 1926, before going on to win a second title in 1931. In 1928 he competed at the Amsterdam Olympics where he won bronze. He returned to the Olympics four years later in Los Angeles but finished a disappointing ninth. Sunde also had the honour of being the flagbearer for Norway at the Opening Ceremony.

Personal Best: JT – 67.04 (1932).
