Biography

While studying at university as a construction engineer Janusz Gronowski competed in track and field athletics in the pole vault. Gronowski represented Gwardia Wrocław from 1955 to 1959 before competing for Gwardia Warszawa until 1966. During this time he competed in 18 international competitions for Poland, won three national titles (1960–62), and set three national records. At the 1960 Roma Olympics he did not advance from the qualifying round, tying for 18th with three other athletes who all had a best clearance of 4.20 metres. In 1984 Gronowski was awarded with the Knight’s Cross of the OOP.
