Andrzej Krzesiński took up track and field athletics after World War II and eventually settled on the pole vault as his specialty. He won his first of 10 national championship medals in that event in 1950 with silver, although his lone title came in 1959, aside from an indoor title in 1951. In 1955 he married Elżbieta Duńska, who would go on to win the Olympic long jump the following year and come in second in 1960. Krzesiński also competed at the 1960 Rome Games, albeit with less success, as he placed 12th in the pole vault. He was also 10th at the European Championships in 1958.
Following his competitive career, Krzesiński focused on coaching, having graduated from the Warsaw Academy of Physical Education. Among his students was 1976 Olympic champion Tadeusz Ślusarski. In 1980 he moved to the United States and took up coaching in Eugene, Oregon for over two decades.
Personal Best: PV – 4.505 (1962).
