Tony Colón was a middle-distance runner who competed in the 1,500 metres for Puerto Rico at the 1972 and 1976 Olympic Games. Colón went to high school at Power Memorial Academy in New York City where he led the 1970 US high school list in the mile (4:06.0) and then attended Manhattan College. At the 1973 NCAA Indoor Championships, Colón anchored the Manhattan team to victory in the distance medley relay.
